Metaphysical questions

Lunchtime conversations with my work mates revolve around all sorts of topics, from food to dreams to siblings to every possible aspect of the lives of young, geeky geneticists.
Whatever the topic however, we always seem to be able to find a resemblance with something that happened in a TV show. Friends, Seinfeld, House, The [...]

Seven pounds

This is one of the best movies I have seen. After “The Pursuit of Happiness” I knew Will Smith had a lot to offer, more than Independence Day and Men in Black that is.
But it’s not only Will’s amazing performance that makes this movie so awesome. What did it for me was the story. When [...]

Keyboard for blondes

This is too good!

I like how the windows key has a little flower drawn on it, how the F1-12 keys are ‘USELESS KEYS’, how the  ‘.’ key on the NumPad has a big arrow pointing to it, how the parentheses and the ‘:’ are circled so that the blondes don’t get confused and can [...]

$4 worth of pampering

Yesterday D wanted to install Ubuntu on one of the servers. I asked why and he gave me a detailed explanation which unfortunately I am unable to reproduce here.
When he realized he needs a blank CD for this he wasn’t too happy because we didn’t possess any which meant he’d have to go to the [...]

I took economy in highschool, but I am was unable to understand why the economy is in such an abyssal state right now.
This video helped A LOT.
And the animation is superb. Made me think of the drawings in A hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy.

Logic problem

D was telling me about the game called Go and how computers are not very good at playing it. Unlike chess, at which computers can beat a human even with half a processor
Anyway, D was reading something on the AAAS website and had this page opened in his browser.

And just as the [...]

Imaginary colors

Here’s what my very geeky boyfriend told me and once I actually understood it [the 20th time he explained it] found it super awesome.
We detect color through the cone cells which are the photoreceptors (sensitive cells) of the human eye. These cells are sensitive to the wavelengths of light that the objects reflect.
There are [...]
